Welcome to my Home Page

My name is Ilya. I'm a PhD student at the Media Research Lab at NYU studying computer vision, computer graphics, and human computer interaction under the watchful eye of my advisor Ken Perlin. I was born in Kiev Ukraine, grew up in Jersey, did a few internship including Microsoft in '99, graudated Princeton University in '01 with a degree in computer science, worked a bit at Lucent and Goldman Sachs, and am now back to school at NYU's Media Research Lab. In addition to school work, I'm currently working on some fun projects like LavaLamp3D, Weditor, and Virtual Clay. I have also done/am doing some consulting work for Valve Software, makers of Half-Life and Google. In my spare time, I enjoy snowboarding, climbing, break-dancing, and anything else which restores blood flow to my brain.

• Touchco - A company spun off from NYU based on IFSR multi-touch sensing technology I co-invented with my advisor Ken Perlin.
• Gotham Wave Games - A fluid engine and game development company that I recently cofounded with Kristofer Schlachter.
• LavaLamp3D - Real-time lava lamp simulation.
• LavaTouch Video 1 Video 2  (on YouTube) - An interactive lava lamp which runs on Perceptive Pixel's multitouch screen.

• Real Time Stereo Vision on GPUs with SGM - My first Siggraph talk on realtime stereo vision.
• Stereo Vision for the LAGR project - I wrote some really accurate really fast SSE optimized stereo vision software for an autonomous robot navigatio project which uses Heiko Hirschmueller's SGM aglorithm.
• Weditor - A web based web page editor with an interface similar to Microsoft Word. (It currently only works with IE 6.0... yeah, I know I know... I need to update it)
• 3D Molecule Builder - Written in 1998, this was my first java program. It was based on a java demo, and inspired some of my other projects like the lava lamp. Thanks to Ken Perlin who's little web based demos inspired me to put this back up on my site.
• SmartLines - Automated line calling system for tennis.
• Kelly Mini Sail Plane  - A triumph of form, function, and yellow.
